Yes .... Alex asked Vince to try and sell it for him, at the show, as he needed to raise some funds for a new car !

Cool. I'm glad you got a chance to see it. It's a great sword and much smaller than one might expect.
That basket-hilt looks especially nice of Vince's. I'm also extremely excited to hear about the new toy you brought home.

It was funny .... I'd seen Alex's sword so many times in pictures that I felt like I knew it !
It was very very nice ...... handled so quick & smooth that it must just scream when cutting !
Always hard letting something of that quality go !
Although I don't believe that it actually sold at the show ?
(I think Alex was asking somewhere in the low 3's for it, if I remember correctly ! )

Hey Mac,
I'm not sure how visible it was, but believe it or not (from the pics) the top 1/8" or so of the central finger of the Caithness pommel is actually the hot-peened tang. Eric and the guys do a great job of reshaping and blending the peens after they are done smacking them with a hammer.

I had a chance to handle your new toy yesterday when I visited with Vince and Grace (who stopped at Grace's sister's house, which fortuitously was only 16 miles from my house). What a wonderful piece. I had wild visions of walking off with it; it would've been an interesting companion piece to my Turcael.
I picked up the beautiful Oxtail Sabre, and will post pics and stats when I get the chance, probably after the SuperBowl.

I try to go against racial stereotypes, so I do not normally go armed with a camera, so no pictures from the SHOT Show. Sorry. I did see a number of wonderful items, and frankly, would prefer that the SHOT Show be held a different weekend from the Custom Knife Show.

Wow, that is amazing ..... what excellent work, I never noticed that !
After holding the two Conan swords again I started getting a strange desire to run for Governor of Las Vegas !
Governor Mac ..... has a nice ring of steel to it, 'eh !

Nice pictures everyone! I can see that staying away from these shows is a good way keep money in wallet :D . Still, spending it is fun too :cool: . I love that turkish saber by Vince. One of these days I want to get a custom kilij from Vince.

Wonderful sword your oxtail ..... the minute I saw it I said to Vince & Grace "Steve will most certainly buy this one" ;-)
So, your creeping up on me pretty fast in the total VE count, and certainly pulling way ahead in the pattern welded VE dept !
Man, you guys are relentless :-)
Speaking of cool old baskethilts .........
While roaming the antique aisles Vince pointed out another awesome old basket-hilt that was leaning all by its lonesome !
It really was a nice old sword and felt quite good in hand !
* Checkout that interesting old basket repair that was welded & riveted on there .... very cool ;-)

Okay ..... next I gotta rave on about a special sword that a good friend brought to the show for all of us to oogle at !
Tom Bassier has been an avid collector for sometime, both antique & modern, and through our association with Vince we have gotten to be good friends, albeit long distance ones !
(Tom keeps up with the Forum here (when he's able to) but I don't believe he's actually posted yet !)
In tow with him were a few of his gems ..... the first of which was his new, and most incredible, Howard Clark katana, polished & fitted by Ted Tenold of Legacy Arts Swords
Tom gave me a few quick stats on it (below) but more will be written on this awesome piece soon !

In the saya it is plus 52" or 53" inches overall.

My youngest son's birthday was this last weekend, that's what ultimately prevented me from attending. My wife and I had intended on flying out by ourselves and leaving him with friends. I don't know why it didn't dawn on me that it was his B-day!

There really were some incredible pieces at the shows this year !
We wished you had been able to attend too, Patrick, but certainly understand that Mini-Me's birthday should rank first & foremost ! Atlanta will be here before you know it and hopefully we'll all be able to be in attendance for that !
Besides all of the amazing bladed weapons at Vegas this year you would have been in heaven looking at the vintage firearms ..... Man, they had more rifles & handguns there than they did at the battle of Waterloo, the Alamo, and The Little Bighorn, combined !!
Ben mentioned that Tom Bassier had brought in his custom Vince Evans claymore ..... well he certainly did, and man it was impressive to behold !
Tom had commissioned this piece awhile back, telling Vince he wanted something with a long tapering blade
(pattern welded of course) terminating in a wicked point, yet stiff enough to drive into a beasts hide !
The grip had to be long, of bone, and would be the type of sword that Odin himself would carry to slay Dragons with ! Vince of course took up the challege .... and so born of the fire was Ragnarok
Tom also brought along his VE baskethilt, which has a beautiful basket-hilt based upon a piece in the 'Culloden The Swords & the Sorrows' book, 1:42 , complete with white ray skin grip, buff leather liner, & sword knot !
The blade on Tom's sword is pattern welded, though, and both this one & Ragnarok feature engraved markings, XX ANDREA FERARA XX , etc., on the pattern welded steel. Very cool !
Also along for our fun & spectacle was an antique rapier that Tom accquired recently ......
The sword is a real beauty .... solid in hand, light & lively, & gave a good sense of command when put in motion !
Many thanks to Tom for lugging all these great swords to the show, just so that we could all enjoy them !
It was very much appreciated and an honor to make his, and their, acquaintance !
