Your not the only one Don. Can't wait to receive my copy. I hope that the next vol isn't released for a while. It might be quite some time before I can justify myself to the missus for spending this much money on a book.

I'd sure like to get this book, but... Unfortunately I'm skipping it due to money concerns and all that mundane stuff. I'll be eager to hear the thoughts of those who receive it.

I am with you Nathan. It is too expensive for me and the time it is apparently going to take to deliver all the volumes is just too long. All the stuff about time and different costs in the e-mail was confusing so I am still in the dark as to the actual cost. I will just wait for the paperback!

Just received my copy, and am very pleased with it. Yes it is expensive but better value for money, IMO, than the recent even more expensive book by Carlo Paggiarino on the Gwynn Collection. It is very well produced - quality paper and binding (it won't be coming out in paperback!). The coverage of the subject is very thorough, starting from pre-basket hilts, through the early forms, and all very well illustrated - a full length photo of each sword described + close-up of the hilt. I can recommend this volume and hope that succeeding ones live up to the same standard. It will be a mighty project.

I'm also happy with the first volume of this work. Neil is right, it won't be released in paperback, the run was limited to 200 copies.

Really, I'm glad to hear it came out so good. I'm a bit envious.

So, I was looking at basket-hilts as research and it appears the Baron of Earlshall has died this April? And the link for the book http://www.thescottishbaskethiltedsword.co.uk/ is no longer maintained. I remember reading about the book on the site before, but now any google search takes me to a third-party seller of the book.

So has the Baron indeed passed away before completing any other volumes? A tragedy. And the status of the future volumes? If anyone has news, I'd appreciate it.

Here's a brief funeral notice. If there's a more complete obituary somewhere, I'd like to see it. https://www.herefordtimes.com/announcements/deaths/deaths/16215822.David__Baron_of_Earlshall_Baxter/

Ah, confirmed on SFI which I haven't looked at for months. Rest in peace. Grateful for such good work and I hope the other volumes can sometime be published.

It's sad that he didn't see his work published. If I remember correctly the other volumes were nearly complete, only needing some finishing touches and editing. It would be great if he entrusted the completion of his work to a friend or family member.
