Albion Skirmish Line - edges too thin for reenactment? -- myArmoury.com

Hi All,

I think this is my first time posting here although I've lurked for a few months. I tried the search function but was only able to find the official announcement thread from 2009.

Anyway, I've been looking for a sword to use for viking reenactment that is a bit higher quality than the one I currently have. Nearly everyone in my group uses Paul Binns but those are getting to be harder to find nowadays. I was speaking to someone with more than a little bit of experience about Albion and he said that, though they're very well made, the cutting edge is still a little too thin to be safe for reenactment fighting. Has anyone here used one of Albion's skirmish line swords for reenactment? If so, have you found them to be as safe as the other options out there?

I can't really comment on the Albions thickness, but I assume you are UK and if so.

Paul Binns is still very much operating so just mail him. Failing that, both Heron Armouries and ArmourClass will sell you very resilient reenactment swords, so that is 3 very good options close to home.

I'm actually in the US, although the UK would be a nice place to live!

It was my understanding that Paul isn't taking orders at the moment due to too high of a demand.

A blade for stage combat or reenactment should be a minimum of 2mm thick with rounded edges. The best way to find out about the Skirmish Line is to call up Albion and talk to Mike Sigman - an easy guy to talk to. Their phone number is on their website.

Per an email from them "we are coming in around 2mm." Sounds fine to me. The sword I'm already using is around that thickness. Thanks for the help!

Although most people here are not generally fans of Darksword armory (for reasons mostly not relevant here), this one looks pretty good:

That KOA/Darksword sword has a point way too sharp to spar with.

i assume that the Skirmish Line swords have the same edges as do the Maestros.

The Skirmish line is probably the most widespread set of swords in Norways reenactment scene (there's at least 5 "Wallingfords" in my group alone). They're more than safe enough for reenactment and the handling is superb. From four years of hard use (and still only have superficial wear), I can personally recommend this line of swords.
