Question about a miniature
Greetings,

Is the footman attacking the horseman with the crossguard or is he offering his sword(surrendering)?

I just stumbled upon it and found it intriguing as I am very interested in any proof of one handed swords being flipped and used ask picks(guard) or maces(pommel).
Now that I have looked at it properly and cooled down from my excitement, I sadly see the truth that it is obviously not a man in a striking position or a hand grip suited at all for striking someone.

Shame :\
Generally when shown, this is a sign of fealty, submission, or surrender. Sometimes the blade is grasped between the palms of the hands and the pommel raised high.
