Morion Authentication
I acquired a Spanish Morion and I do not know the provenance. Where do I begin to determine if it is authentic? Do I start with a local museum or are there sites I can send a picture to just to get the ball rolling? Thank you
This is exactly the sort of forum to begin doing that. The other would be the Armour Archive. Between these two sites there are a handful of experienced collectors and dozens of expert enthusiasts whose educated opinions can help you with any questions you have about your acquisition. Bring on the photos! High-resolution images of all angles of the helmet, inside and out, and of any detailed components (rivets, fixtures, rolled edges) will all help to discern the quality and authenticity of the piece.
