After thinking over I decided to make a jack of plates since the 1" square plates wouldn't need to be curved. I acquired leather for the cover and 18 gauge stainless steel sheets. However I couldn't find any guide for the lacing pattern.
If by "lacing" you mean stitching, then here you go:
