Hi guys!

I have some questions about XIV. th century body harness, so I would really appreciate your help Happy

I'm planning to develop my kit with body armour, and I've searched for some historical and modern inspiration. I'm reenacting a wealthier knight in the period of 1350-1375 cca.

Is this historically accurate for my period? http://cs308828.vk.me/v308828221/3acf/v1jxRLmYNVk.jpg

It's looks like a fusion of a CoP and a Corrazina for me, and it's more simpathic for me than "regular" CoP while it gives a little bit more globose look, like on more and more effigies dated from 1350's. I'm doing a hungarian knight so I have looked for inspiration in german and italian regions, I think theese were the main influences for XIV. th century Hungary. If I see the St. George statue in Prague, which is a work of two hungarian sculptor, this harness on the picture shows similarities, I think. The statue was made around 1373 so it"s in my period...

If you could tell your oppinion, or suggest me something better, or more accurate, I would be very grateful Happy

You might want to check the images in the Chronica Pictum, Hungarian, and in the right time frame.

Thank you Mart!

Of yourse I've used the Chronica Pictum earlier, but for your advice, I revisited it, to search directly for CoP or body armour depictions. I think it's not easy to tell what you see on the illuminations are actually CoP like armour, or "just" the fashionable 14th century surcoats made from fancy fabric with patterns....

http://manuscriptminiatures.com/media/cache/m..._large.jpg on this picture, I think the night in the foreground wears a CoP somewhat looks like the one I previously linked in the topic. The small "dots" seems rivet heads to me, while it's different from the two "figured" surcoat of the two knights in the background....

On http://manuscriptminiatures.com/4758/7595/ and http://manuscriptminiatures.com/4758/7602/ also could be rivets, but I'm not quite certain that the illuminator really depicted CoPs... anyway, it's a good point to start Happy

Compare to the effigy of Orlamünde, +1340

The reproduction has a bit more shaping at the waist, which is more fashionable in your time frame, but otherwise the plate arrangement looks quite similar. Perhaps it's more top of the line for 1350-1360 than 1360-1375.

Have you seen the Hirschstein castle pair of plates? Seems close to your time frame and dates. Some of those look to be the more rounded chest like I'd think you'd see with larger chest plates. This seems to start around 1350 but come more into vogue a bit later depending on region.

That MS is a fantastic resource though!

Thanks for the replies!

I'm wondering, if a corazzina would be also good. Previously I've read, that it has appeard around 1380, but I think it has been used earlier. It gives a nice "wasp waist" shape, which fits the effigies, and it is more likable for me. I know, it's hard to tell becouse of the surcoats, but I don't think it's irreal that they constructed harnesses like this. The Saint George statue in Prague also a little bit similar to this kind of armour. http://www.forgeofsvan.com/components/com_vir...132862.jpg

What are your oppinion guys? Thank you for the replies and help in advance! Happy
