A Ballock Dagger, XVth century.

Fileworked Horn handle, Brass and Old Iron.

Horn is a fantastic material to work with, giving a smooth, deep, rich finish. It can however yeld a few surprises, like all organic materials - hence the changes of hues and minor cracks due, in fact, to the very life of the animal…

The hand-forged, old iron (well over 200 years old) guard itself offers a rich texture, and a few cracks as well, adding to the ‘proper’ (lacking a better word) feel of the object.

And a brass inlay set between the two serves as a nice highlight to both.

A scabbard is currently under making - more images very soon...

Currently available at 580 € (with the scabbard).
Lovely execution and I really like the way that you go out of your way to find oddball pieces to replicate.

You are also so right about horn; often its fine, but then right when you have put loads of time into something, you cut away the last area to find a whopping crack - frustrating.

Great work

That's a lovely piece, especially the horn grip.
Beautiful work Fabrice. I love this hilt form, this is rather unique in the repro market.

Thanks Chaps.

Scabbard will follow soon hopefully.
Very impressive carving of the horn handle and all the rest of the dagger is equally visually interesting.
...And after no less than 2 unsuccesful tries, I finally made it a scabbard :

Took some time, I know...
And the stunner got more stunning - lovely on every level, particularly the interlacing.

Superb work all the way around.
