Seax by Lech Budaj
Hello,
I just wanted to show a new Norse/Slavic seax I just received by Lech Budaj. He isn't too well known on the forum and his interest leans mostly towards Japanese style blades. I am very happy for this small blade and just wanted to make his work known here. The small black spot on the blade is his maker's mark which did not photograph well.
Blade width: 2,3 cm/ 0,90''
Blade length: 14,2 cm/ 5,60''
Total length: 26,2 cm/ 10,30''

The sheath is made of natural cowhide leather and German silver
The blade is made of four packages of pattern welded steel (56HRC),
The handle is made of black oak wood, german silver and deer antler with a dragon design.

That is gorgeous Robert! Really nicely done seax! I'm jealous...
That's really appealing... how do you find these makers?! I like that you seem to have taken many opportunities to own examples form a lot of makers over the years. I've done the same over my time as a collector and have learned a lot from it.

Good Morning Tim,

Coming from you that is quite a compliment! I wish I could afford even part of your collection!!!

Hi Nathan,

Well with collecting slowing down, I do spend more time following links and generally searching the internet for lesser known smiths, especially new ones. I like to support beginning smiths or bring examples or very experienced ones, not well know here to the forum's attention. There is much talent out there that I was not aware of.

Regards
Robert

Got to love the design on both the handle and sheath!
