|
|
I am thinking of ordering a sharp Regenyei longsword.
I have been disappointed by the edge on swords of other sword makers and want to be sure this one will be good.
What do I expect of an edge, as straight as possible and a uniform sharpness.
The sharpness preferably paper cutting sharp.
Does anyone has experience with Peter Regenyei sharp swords and wants to share it with me?
I'll give my thoughts on edges of the swords I have or had:
Pavel Marek, wavy edge, sharp on some places, very dull on most, impossible to put a decent edge on.
Arma Bohemia, wavy edge, sharp on some places, dull on some places, possible to sharpen.
Hanwei Atrim: straight edge, uniform dullness, hard to sharpen but it is possible.
Valiant Armoury: straight edge, uniform sharpness, perfect edge, easy to resharpen.
Cold Steel: straight edge, uniform sharpness, perfect edge, easy to resharpen.
Albion: straight edge, uniform sharpness, perfect edge, easy to resharpen.
thanks
Jeroen

Hello Jeroen,
I only have blunt sword from Mr. Regenyei but if you do decide to go ahead with one of his swords, make sure to specify that you want it sharpened to a certain degree. He's very approachable with customizations and special requests. If he has the means to sharpen it like you want it I'm sure he will be willing to do it.
Shipping concerns might be some trouble for those seriously sharp swords, though?

The Regenyei sharps I've seen didn't have a good edge. Wide secondary bevels of varying sharpness. Not paper cutting sharp. The swords still cut pretty well but yeah, they needed some rework pretty badly.

I'm currently waiting on a sharp montante from Regenyei. I did specify that I wanted appleseed edge bevels so it will be interesting to see if the sword has them when it arrives.

Thanks for the replies.
Emil, I was going to order a scabbard with it, that way I can avoid shipping problems.
Foong and Joan, how long will it take to get your Regenyei's? I'm looking forward to your views on them.
Lukas, that is wat I feared. I emailed mister Regenyei with my requests and I'll see what he answers.

I believe my Regenyei sword should arrive during august, maybe a bit earlier. When it arrives I will probably do a full review.

The way the Pavel Marek edge is described in the OP sounds like the lone DSA example I have. Another (same price point) example I have has two very straight edges, extremely sharp with consistent appleseed profiles down each edge. Two widely differing quality levels of blades, same price point........low price point at that. Second example not DSA, but Legacy Arms.

Peter notify me the falchion is almost done, so either end of this month or early next month.
From what I learn from many other DSA swords owner, it's better to order the sword blunt and sharpen it yourself. As they sharpening services is horrible

I got my DSA blunt and sharpened it myself. I would not recommend that strategy based on my experience, the waviness and inconsistent temper of the edge resulted in a sword with some sharp areas, and other areas that will not take an edge. Hopefully DSA has improved their blade making abilities, or perhaps they should simply market their products as not intended for sharpening.

So my falchion just arrive and I examined the edge. The sharpness are actually quite balanced and it is somewhere between medium to razor sharp. If you had Regenyei's sharp before and it wasn't good. Maybe he improved on sharpening.
Anyway, I will try to record some test cutting with plastic bottles
