Kukri/Khukuri Sharpening
I recently aquired a Himalayan Imports British Kukri from a friend, however his blade was ground to a blunt edge along the entire length, I believe due to customs regulations. I can easily sharpen the upper part of the blade with the convex edge, and have done so on an assortment of stones (360 grit, 480, 600, 1200) and will eventually polish that, but I've unable to sharpen the inner concave part of the blade, as all my stones are flat.

I've heard of various improvisations such as wrapping a dowel rod with sandpaper, or buying a round slipstone intended for radiused edges, but was wondering what advice I might find here?
Personally I just use a smaller pocket stone; a DMT diamond stone usually, to cover the inside angle. It only grinds along the edges, but it will work. If you have to do a lot of stock removal, some judicious use of a round file could get you close, and you can finish with something finer.
Like David mentioned mentioned you will have to use something round. when i wanted to re bevel mine i used a round file to get it close (go slow) and then went to the dowel rod with sand paper. I went to the automotive store and got up to 1600 grit and that put a good edge on it. from there if you want it to looked polished I would wrap the dowel in leather and rub some flitz polish on it to use it as a strop.

Best of luck.
I recently purchased a Windlass Kukri as a Christmas gift for my brother-in-law. A few licks from a fine file and a little bit of stone-work had it near shaving sharp. My wife gets so pissed when I sharpen a blade while she's watching TV....   ...........McM
