Hi guy's

I seen a sword on Craigslist an XVa .
Now that I look at the swords I think it's an old black prince by Arms and Armor I'm 99.9%sure it is.If any one could give me info on the old model with a few photos that would be great.

Depending on how old, there may be the A&A stamp on the blade. The 2002 sword I used to have had no mark and although bronze fittings, it was the same look. In watching the site over the past decade there were a couple of changes. The pommel got decorated and there was a "new" grip with risers but it seems at some point went back to a plain straight grip while the pommel is still decorated. The slightly oblong pommel should be a clue.

I don't have very many pictures of mine but the memories will run long. Great sword.

I'm not sure how old it is the dimensions are similar to the new Black Prince. I did end up buying it I had to For the price. The pommel and guard are steel not brass like your's Glen but yes the pommel is oblong same as the brass one on your sword. I will add a photo if that helps so someone can confirm that it is an old A&A Black Prince like I suspect it is. Thank you Glen for your help.

The other tale tell is the construction and you will be able to see that. The pommel's peen block is actually a nut but A&A does a great job in finishing that. My German Bastard was second hand and someoone tried baning on the peen when the handle was loose.

Here another bronze from A&A (gone to another some time ago as well)

That one reworked now with a longer grip The base of it was Urbino fittings on and Edward III blade.

So I'm convinced that this sword I bought is an retired black prince by A&A all though it does not look 100% like the black prince it still is a beautiful XVa sword and from A&A.So I will recover the grip ....red I think and give the pommel & guard more of a satin finish and hot pinned pommel.
So if I could find a review anywhere on this sword that would be great there has to be a review somewhere but I can't find it.

I will have photos up later once I get the grip redone, the blade is in perfect condition but what I'd like to know was the steel in A&A blades from the late 90s as good and as well heat treated as today's blades?

Hi James

If you can send me a pic I should be able to confirm it is one of ours. The BP went through some derivations over time. It was one of our first swords that we started to make way back.

The steel might be either 4150, 1075 or 6150 depending on when it was made. They all would have been heat treated.

Here are a few photos before I put on the new leather. Also Craig Johnson confirmed today that it was an A&A sword from the early 90s, which I was happy that he confirmed.

Thank you Jeffery I'm happy with the end result and to bring an old sword back to life. It does look glossy in the photos but in photo only must be the lighting.
