Hey y'all......I'm thinking of ordering a Windlass pole axe. I'm not very good at posting pics, but it's the one in the MRL catalog for sale on the same page as the Gothic armor. Also on KOA, under 'spears'. I was just wondering if anyone has one, and your thoughts on it. At $119 from KOA, this seems like a pretty awesome weapon. I know I was impressed with my Windlass Long Bladed Hewing Spear. This may be only the third Windlass product I have ever owned, but I think it looks pretty good. Thoughts?......Thanks in advance.....McM

Hi Mark

I have the windlass poleaxe, but in my opinion it looks more like a halberd. The shaft is very big and thick, alot heavier than most of other poleaxes(5-6lb). The spear point is incredibly long, for me it was preventing me from using the axe head, and the rear hook was short and small. The thurst was very powerful though, it penetraded a 8mm wooden board. And this item is not cheap, the length along with shipping is about 30 or 40 bucks! Hope this helps.

I agree it's more a halberd than a pole axe. The long point is what drew me to it. The axe and spike are just a bonus. I'm just wondering if KOA's sharpening service includes all edges. Is yours sharp?............McM

Mine isn't sharpened, but the stuff already has this pre secondary bevel, it makes it a lot easier to sharpen. I myself wouldn't rely on the axe head, it's too small for it to be effective. It can definitely cut but just not as good as the more expensive ones. I'd say this weapon is more of a thrusting polearm.

P.S The hook is really intimating

I just like the overall look of the whole thing. What is your impression of the temper and flex of the steel, Edward? ....McM

Mark

The spear head is well tempered, thick. The langet is riveted into the shaft, and it stays there. I abused the weapon, and it pretty much stood up to the tests(banging on metal poles and shock tests). The hook and axe head however are not tempered, maybe it was meant to be that way. They were thick, hard to nick, it gave me the impression to think that this weapon was more of a halberd than a poleaxe.
