The 'Show us..." threads are becoming great resources for similar groups of items, allowing readers to find multiple examples of similar types in one thread. Though many of these items show up elsewhere in other threads, the 'Show us.." threads allow easier browsing of related items.

This thread is for showing custom pieces based on historical pieces. If you can, please include a pic (or pics) of the original that inspired the recreation. Pieces don't have to be exact replicas, "inspired by" pieces work here, too. Swords, daggers, armour, polearms, etc. are all welcome.

Here are a few of mine. I've put together little montages that show the recreation and its basis. The pairs are not exactly to scale, but I've tried to get them close. The angles/perspectives never match, though. Oh well. Happy

Arms and Armor made me this custom version of a Continental military sword, circa 1675. I had them add a thumb ring, which I now regret a little, as I think it functions better without it. The original is one of the most beautiful swords made in the 17th century

Here are a few more customs and their originals -

A&A Walloon - I gave A&A photos of many originals. They went with one from around 1650 in the Armemuseum in Sweden.

A&A German bastard sword - We started out with A492 from the Wallace Collection. I liked the shape, but felt the sword was a bit too small. So the new one has the same shape, but is much larger.

A&A Alexandrian Arsenal sword. This original had extensive published specs. A&A made a very close copy. the only real difference is in the pommel - altered so that a 19mm sized coin could be inset into the pommel recess.

Almost everything I own is a custom pieces modeled after one or more originals. A good 85% of the collection is already shown in my Collection Gallery and includes any historical inspiration when available.

I'll share just a few here:

Arms & Armor Custom Swiss Saber
Original: Switzerland, circa 1530, The Wallace Collection, London

This piece is closely based on an original located in The Wallace Collection, London (Cat. No. A.489).

Arms & Armor Custom Bastard Sword
Original: Circa 1500 German

This piece is inspired by a sword dated circa 1500 located in a private collection.

E.B. Erickson Landsknecht Sword
Original: Mid-16th century Germany

Based on several surviving examples including this one from the Dresden Historisches Museum.

E.B. Erickson Bavarian Longsword
Original: South German or Bavarian, circa 1550

This sword is based on several antiques such as the example on the left located in a private collection attributed to Melchior Diefstetter of Munich, circa 1540-50 and three other swords located in The Wallace Collection, catalog numbers A.480, A.483, and A.485.

Here's a small series of some of my replicas where I could find a nice comparable angle of the source material.

This is the ring I love most, the colour of the stone matches the original painting so well. Made by Zilverlinde.nl

This is my belt/purse/dagger combination, loosely based on a series of paintings, with as a centerpiece my purse, based on the Merode altar piece. I've kept the parchment fittings off, as I've yet to think of what to engrave on them.
The purse is based on several leather finds documented in purses in pieces and all the fittings on the entire oufit are solid silver, except for a gold disc on the pommel of the dagger. Made by various artists, purse fittings by Bractea, belt by Lorifactor, purse by a local friend and the dagger is made by Tod.

Here's my sallet, based on the famous italian export sallet in Leeds, formerly part of the Churburg collection.

1. A Scottish-style basket-hilt broadsword or "Claidheamh Mor" with S-member side gaurd, or "S-hilt", Mazansky type K1, dated late 18th century. A sword for an officer in a Highland Regiment. Based on an original in the collection of Pat Tougher that is said to have seen action at the Battle of Waterloo. Hilt by Erik Stevenson; Blade by Angus Trim.
2. Viking-style sword with pattern-welded blade, based on #C237 in Pierce's "Swords of the Viking Age". Dated to the 10th century AD. The hilt is a Peterson type S and Wheeler type III. The original is in a museum in Oslo. Reproduction by Patrick Barta of the Czech Republic.

Here are a couple of custom swords I have commissioned that are based on specific historical artefacts.

The first is based on a 9th century sword found in the river Witham, in northern England, and currently in Sheffield Museum. The reproduction was made by Patrick Barta.

The second sword was found in Dover, south-east England, and is now in the British Museum; it is dated to the late 6th century. The blade was made by Owen Bush and it was hilted and assembled by Leo Todeschini.

Gosh, my envy bells are going off! REALLY nice pieces, here. It occurs to me that I don't have many custom weapons, aside from bronze ones mostly by Neil Burridge, and even most of those are accurate of typical weapons of their type but not necessarily copies of specific artifacts. Plus most of the artifacts are lacking hilts, so when I hilt them, even being as accurate as possible they aren't *copies*...

BUT I've made a few reasonable armor bits! Since I'm in a Romulus mood these days, we'll start with my Villanovan-era bronze "poncho" cuirass, dating to the 8th century BC. The original is in the University of Pennsylvania Museum.

This April I got to portray the Founder of Rome at the Museum's Founding of Rome event:

My helmet is the same type as that in the case, but based off a different example--I *think* one from the Met, but I would have to dig around for a picture.

Next, my Romulus shield and "Remus" helmet, both from the former Axel Guttmann collection:

A couple years before, I made European Bronze Age helmet, based on another piece in the Guttmann collection:

It was only my second attempt at dishing out a helmet in 2 halves, so it isn't quite bulbous enough when seen from the front, and a little too wide and roundy when viewed from the side. Pretty much caught the essence, though.

I'm not *trying* to be so different from everyone else, it just keeps happening that way! Thanks for sharing, guys.

My first weapon that based off 13 century bardiche

It's blunt, made of 4.5 mm thick 1045 carbon steel. Facility cut out and added the loops to it. I did the sanding and finishing by hand.

Hi all,

this is my replica of a sallet currently on display at the Walters Art Museum, Baltimore. The original was made between 1480 and 1490, from steel with brass rivets. It weighs 4lbs 12oz.

The replica was custom made and fit to my head by Christian Wiedner from Halle/Germany. Due to cost issues the bowl was not raised from one sheet, but welded in the middle. It's fully functional, including the spring catch for the visor.
