Does anyone have any pictures of the original armet that belonged to Philip the 1st of Castille and is now in Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna? The same one that Mr. Jeff Wasson used as a basis for an armet with wrapper that won the AotM (Helms) March-April 2011 competition?

Looks to be completely different, but also belonging to Philip I.

I dont think that is the original that Jeff's armet was based on.

Jeff's helm and the associated harness are based on a surviving half harness attributed to Maximilian I, built c. 1500 by an unknown armorer (as far as I'm aware). Here's a photograph I took of the armor in 2006:

Here's my version, not very different from Gregory's, taken in 2008. The museum catalogue gives its inv. no. as A7, made for Philip I (the Handsome) by Lorenz Helmschmid in Augsburg in c.1495-1500.

Yup, had to check the catalogue again. It's attributed to Maximilian I in an Osprey book and that's why I've always got that stuck in my head. Definitely for Philip I, though! My apologies. Nice to be reminded that it's got an attributed maker, too. It is beautiful armor.
