I wanted to let anyone interested know that a number of HEMA practitioners in Wisconsin have joined to form the:

Wisconsin Historical Fencing Association (WHFA)
A HEMA Alliance Affiliate

Currently we have two chapters:
The study group in Appleton, WI is lead by our Lead Instructor Aaron Pynenberg
The study group in La Crosse, WI is lead by Chapter Leader Scott Hanson. (Scott is a myArmoury.com member, so you may recognize him)

We are pleased to announce that in conjunction with the Castlerock Museum and Albion Swords we will be conducting a Longsword “Basic Training” Camp, October 20th and 21st, 2012.

Further details will be forthcoming on our website: http://www.wi-hfa.org and on our Facebook page.
We will also post a follow up here on myArmoury.com with more details.

I've gotten a few requests from people seeking HEMA organizations near them, so I wanted to point out a couple of online maps that will assist those interested in finding a club near them:

Eastern North America (East Coast to the Mississippi River):

Western North America (The Mississippi River to the West Coast):

At risk of getting this thread hot and off topic, is there another ARMA schism going on? I've suddenly seen, and received notice on some old lists I was once active on, declarations from several ARMA study groups announcing that they are going independent or formally renouncing their ARMA affiliation. Haven't been a member in Y-E-A-R-S and have not been to the ARMA forums in almost as long to know. Frankly don't have enough interest to search for insight but it sure seems like another round of stalwarts that I learned to respect once upon a time long, long ago, are departing.

Best of luck with the new projects! Cool

Addressed in PM. In efforts not to make this a negative/uncivil thread (which unfortunately often happens when bringing up ARMA), please PM me if you have similar questions.

"Schism" refers to a split. ARMA has never split, thus there has never been an "ARMA schism". What some like to call "ARMA schism" was just a couple of study groups leaving ARMA back in 2009 but it was in no way a splitting of the organization. Likewise this past week one of the deputy directors, Aaron Pynenberg, left along with several other members who were close to him. We all hated to see Aaron leave but we wish him all the best with his new group.

I'm not sure what part of this was unclear:

Not only did Randall choose to make this about ARMA, but Joe, you choose to be less than civil in your response. Please take this debate somewhere else.

This thread is about WHFA, not ARMA. I'm not interested in another thread about petty HEMA politics. Enough drama. I'm interested in furthering the art who's tools this site is dedicated to.

And Randall, thank you for the well wishes!

Come on, now. Be nice. You're welcome to disregard a person's response, but writing a dismissive post isn't really what we're looking for here.

One other quick note - I don't know who manages the Community Walk page, but we - the Chicago Swordplay Guild - also have a branch of about a dozen or so students training in Milwaukee.

@Ben: I have asked for more details, and as soon as I know I will post them here. I will also be posting a flyer on our website.

@Greg:
Thank you for for the well wishes! Our organizations are so close, I hope we have an opertunity to interact!

I am not sure who manages the community map at HEMAA. I would recommend E-mailing the Governing Council as they are sure to know: governingcouncil@hemaalliance.com.

Congratulations to you all. I wish you good fortune in your endeavors. Also thanks for the map link. I've added my group to the HEMA map. Hopefully we can train together one day.
