My friend recently purchased a Cold Steel Dirk. It's nice, but the grip is too long. He was thinking of replacing the wood section with a shorter piece of antler. However, he is uncertain as to whether the pommel cap is threaded and can be unscrewed. He doesn't want to force it and risk ruining it if it is epoxied on.
Has anyone on the forum tried to disassemble a Cold Steel dirk like this one?

I've never handled this particular piece, but according to the KoA website, it's threaded. If by chance it is held on with just epoxy and it happens to break off, then I don't see much of an issue. Especially if the intention was to replace the handle anyway. Plus if it does break, then repairing it is easy; just use more epoxy.

Heat causes epoxie to decompose. So heat the pommel until you smell burning plastic. You should be able to remove it then. If you smell burning wood your too hot.
