GDFB Great Bascinet
Hello,

I just picked up one of GDFB's Great Bascinet with barred occularium and am curious if this helmet is based on any historical pieces. It has a very unique looking visor in my opinion has anyone seen anything else like it? Any input or photos are much appreciated.

Thanks!
Hello and welcome to myArmoury.com. :) Are there any pictures you can share of which helm you're referring to?
Is it this one...

That is the one Phil, thank you for attaching a link. I've never joined any forums before let alone post so everything is new to me and Im still figuring out how to attach pics and links. Thanks again for the replies[/img]
unless im mistaken didnt great bacsinets usually have a similar setup to the hundskull bascinet except for two key differences.. one, often instead of a maile aventail/mantle, it would i think have a plate collar. and 2 it had a much more rounded visor but the visor was definately much more bulged and as i said before like a hundskull.

Yes, the cumbersome looking style with solid neck coverage is a great bascinet.
I think GDFB just decided to call their bascinet a "great bascinet" for marketing purposes.
it looks more like a 'visored great helm' if you asked me
Visored great helms? I never knew they existed. Do you have any pics?
Drew ,
Here you go...this pic has one very similar...
Peteris,

Here is one for you.I believe that this is a visored great helm...
i thought visored great helms were fictional/ a speculated but not substantiated helmet type

apparently they do exist

Thanks! I guess William's post above applies to me as well.
For more info on great helms, included the visored variety, see Spotlight: The Great Helm.

For historical great bascinets, see Great bascinets and related helms.

The GDFB helm doesn't really resemble historical helms closely enough for me.

I think he was actually working with this GDFB bascinet.
