A sad tragedy. According to the link it seems that their collection is largely undamaged though, but most of the damage seems to be on the upper floors, the roof and the bell tower.

Stupid kids playing with matches to smoke cigarettes I believe ?
Makes one wonder about security at the site and how unattended children would be there ?
Unless they are kids of local staff or something why would they even be there ?
At least I read that most of the collections where saved !

From what I heard they weren't actually at the site, but started a grass fire nearby and it spread to the castle.

I wonder If military leaders of the past would knew how easy it is to burn down the castle ... or a part of it.

Is there a non official one? In effect it looks strange that a fire could be spreading from a lawn nearby to the top if an high castle, leaving the lower parts of the castle intact.
Also, i strongly hope that most original items be safe. The damage made to the building seems restorable.

i cant help but think that if something similar happened in japan they'd shrug and just rebuild it,
since many castles have burnt down fairly frequently.
thats not to say this isnt a tragedy, ANY loss of original buildings/ artefacts is a major loss.
