AFAIK Del Tin bases most of there swords on original pieces. So I'm wondering if anyone here might know, and perhaps have some pics of, which original Del Tin's DT207O is based on. I've owned that sword for quite a while now as I have one from when Museum Replicas sold it. I am pretty sure it is not based on any original.

I just flipped through Behmer, but it's not there. Some type VIII pommels are more or less similar (carved/inlayed and with beast heads on the sides), but those swords have a different crossguard construction, namely with a metal core sandwiched between two layers of organic material.

Pity, so it's not based on any original. I did think to myself that it looked a little off. Thanks for clearing that up for me guys, much appreciated.

I would email Fulvio and ask him what he based the design on before I would assume it's not historically based. It may be a composite of two or more swords.

Hi Stephen...
Here is a pommel cap that is similar. I believe the drawing is from "Das Schwert im Fruhen mittelalter" by Wilfried Menghin
The find is from Kornwestheim Germany. It is 62 mm wide and 14mm high.
It appears that it might be the inspiration for the DT2070. The sandwich guards are generic, as are the lines and cross decoration.

Robert Moc has an pommel similar to the DelTin sword as on his web page. Really nice sword.

Thanks again guys for the replies. Kirk you always come through with some of the best pics. I do however, agree with Paul that this pommel would probably be better suited to a Behmer type 8.
