At least it looks like the rock is a bit worse for wear too...
I'm with Mr Strojek on this one.

Reenacting The Song of Roland
i'm surprised no one said anything about a light saber? or is that a taboo around here?

honestly could a light saber do anything against a highly polished sword would it just reflect the beam back on the user?

no i'm going with Ryan McLaurin's theory it sounds piratical.

A light saber would definitely do the trick. The level of polish a blade had wouldn't matter as a light saber is plasma contained in a magnetic field rather than some sort of laser that could be reflected.
Dragon

He tried to stab a dragon in the eye, the dragon dodged and bit down on it snapping the blade. In a last ditch attempt to kill said dragon he tried to half sword with his three quarter sword, missed again but followed up with a pommel strike. Unfortunately he hit the dragon right between the eyes where the skull is thickest and hardiest and broke the pommel off.

That is the only thing that could have happened.

Hello Everyone!

My Last sword.......Just Broke!! it happens, but this Angus thrim cutter treated me so well I felt i needed to honor it in this post!
Still looking for the last 12inches of the blade.

this may also be the next sword ill collect if i can Find it.

I am speculating that the reason we have not heard why the sword broke is the following. He broke the sword, but couldn't find the tip. So he ran inside the house, posted his entry to myArmoury, heard the doorbell. Open the front door to two armed police officers who arrested him on suspicion of man slaughter. I suspect his neighbor lady has a12-inch piece of blade quivering in her living room wall.
Honestly, that picture is so epic I'd leave the sword as it is and possibly enshrine it, LotR style. Then tell my grandchildren outlandhish stories about how it broke,

I love how it's broken at just the right lenght and everything.

Then how did he live to tell the tale? :D
Hello guys
Sorry Its taken me so long to reply to this must anticipated question.

How did the sword break.???

Just so everyone knows, i wasn't breaking rocks.......I certainly was kicking them when the blade cracked though.

I was cutting a cactus..yes even i'm shocked it broke. What i feel must have happened is over the last year i've had this blade i've missed my soft targets a few times, and hit a pole or wall, which may have caused many micro fractures that inevitably when hit at the right spot caused it to crack!

and POP!! no more beautiful sword. =0(

A few other things that couldn't have helped. I prefer a peened pommel so i had the Wheel Pommel welded on. it could have hurt the over all temper i think.. I don't know why it choose to break the same time and the blade though..i'm not that strong.

what i shall do and a few of you have mentioned it. Is turn it into a girly short sword!!!

Thank you all and Merry xmas....
ohhhhh PS im a girl

What sort of Cactus? There are only a few I can think of (being originally from Arizona) that have a woody sub structure in side the cactus.

She sprayed it in the eyes with Girly perfume. After that she ran, as any wise person would do when facing a dragon with no more than a broken sword.

I don't believe the cactus story for a instant.
Thanks for solving this mystery, Jen! It's good you weren't hurt by the broken pieces...

So long, Thomas
:wtf: broke it on a cactus . . . . . . so you maced a dragon with perfume which tells all stalker jerks to back off and were so mad you forgot to use the sword you super woman choped the cactus with your sword :\ . but unknown to you the catctus was an enchanted desert spirit that broke your blade as punishement for doing it harm :surprised: does that sound right?

:p this is how good fairy tales can be made

and whoever posted the manslaughter idea i was so not ready for that
Don't know if it's possible but I would greatly appreciate if you could show a close photo of the broken steel. Seeing how the steel looks like were it broke could be meaninful.
Anyway, welding the pommel cannot do anything bad to the blade tempering.
Regards.
Since you were able to post a pic of your broken sword could you please post a pic of the cactus? I grow succulents and cactus as a hobby I'm curious to know which cactus it is...
welding the pommel will be the easy bit the blade will be a lot harder.

id grind down the brake to 2-3mm at a sharp angle.
TIG weld the crack shut from both sides useing copper backing for the heat and a clamp.
then id slowy build up the grinded pach, a light grind to level it off and a quick polishing.
and then it needs heat treating and all that .

youd never get the sword as it was and id cost you a fair chunk of a new sword.
Guys, guys,

What about the poor dragon?

I forget who did it, but I remember seeing an experiment done years ago regarding reforging a blade. The two halves had about a 4-6" vertical cut made down the centerline then they were scarfed, overlapped alternately, and forge welded. After it was heat treated and put back together it held up to repeated blows and a flex test.
