As most of you may or may not know, Albion Armourers is having a most excellent sale of 20% off selected merchandise. I'm posting this to all Cdns who might be putting off that sword purchase. Hold on! this is not some shameless promo...
Please consider the following!
Earlier this year the Can-U.S exchange rate hit a high of about 1.60 Cdn for 1 U.S dollar.
Now it's about 1.35 Cdn for 1.00 U.S and Albion's sale is 20% off.
So let's say you spend about $1,000 U.S
1000 US*1.6 is 1,600.00 Cdn
With Albion's sale, 1,000.00 US is 800.00 US and at an exchange of 1.35 it is 1,080.00 Cdn
That's a savings of $520 Cdn! it's like $1 Cdn = $1 U.S !!
The point here is that the Cdn gov't is worried about our dollar and wants to bring it back to what it used to be. The gov't is taking steps to lower our interest rates.
Economic mumbo jumbo... lower intererst rates may make the Cdn dollar cheaper in relation to the US dollar. This is important b/c we Cdn's want our dollar to be cheap so we can sell all sorts of wood, maple syrup, and igloo makers to the U.S. I'll spare ya'll the eco lesson on how an interest rate differential translates into currency exchange rate effects.
The point is, with X-mas (U.S eco boost) coming up and the potential for the Cdn gov't to lower our interest rate, the Cdn $ may go down.
In my 5 years of collecting, I've never seen a deal like this. On avg, the Cdn buck has usually been 1.50 Cdn for every 1.00 U.S
I just picked up a Crecy and Acre. Buy at your own risk (it is speculation after all), but as an amateur speculator, I cannot foresee the Cdn $ being this high in the future.

When are you crazy Canucks just going to drop this whole silly notion of "The Canadian Dollar" and "Sovereignty".
It would really make things so much easier you know! Plus you could drop the whole confusing game of Curling and begin Bowling with your new American Overlords!

Damn you Dave! I've been doing fairly well resisting the temptation of the Albion sale. I've picked up a couple of items off the SFI Classifieds and have a semi-custom sword ordered. I inquired after an axe that Patric Kelly has for sale but that didn't work out. So I dedided to take that as a sign that I should stop my shopping around and start saving up to pay for the final half of the semi-custom when it comes due next spring. Then you have to remind me how much I'll save if I buy from Albion right now. Even now there is a little devil holding a little Visa card whispering in my ear, "Listen to Dave. He makes so much sense. Do it. Buy another sword. You know you want it."

Oh man! I'm single myself, but I hear those womenfolk take all that wedding stuff pretty seriously. How long do you think it'll be before you'll be able to buy another sword without having her use it on you?

I hope the wedding is getting on alright?
A nice sword can kill your back - sleeping on the sofa for awhile will make you sore...

The USD is low now for us too, not an all time low but still a good rate.
If it wasn´t for the customfees i would seriously consider ordering something sharp from Albion... or AT for that matter come to think about it.
Well i guess i need to save up some more money, but when i will have the founds - the price will of course be higher...

next sword purchase... i can't think that far ahead... lucky for me, Patrick Barta is so backlogged, my order will arrive in 3 years time.
does that answer your question?
