I'm looking for a good steel reproduction short sword for demonstrating xiphos techniques during the reenactment of the battle of Marathon in Greece. We'll have a number of skilled swords-people--I'd like to have a good steel sparring weapon (a pair, actually) for scripted public demonstrations.

I've been through all the major suppliers--I'd rather not use plastic or wood, but I'd be happy to use a good sparring version of the Roman Gladius, despite the differences. Anything out there?

It is, after all , the 2500th anniversary--not a benchmark often seen in reenacting circles. And we will be in Greece...

Thanks!

Christian

That blade is a little short for Marathon--as I understand it the shorter Spartan sword was not introduced until after the Persian Wars. Plus on this particular repro, the whole hilt would have to be replaced if you want something reasonably historically accurate. However, from what I know of Baltimore Knife and Sword, it should be quite a strong piece.

Have fun at Marathon!! Khaire,

Matthew
