Hello All

I hope this finds you well and having a good Fall.

I wanted to let anyone who maybe living or traveling in the Oshkosh, WI area that there is an exhibit at the Oshkosh Public Museum entitled Arms and Armor. It features items from the Oakeshott Collection.

The exhibit runs from Sept 25th to Oct 31st.

I hope if you are in the area you will be able to visit this exhibit and enjoy the great city of Oshkosh.

Thanks, Craig, I live 25 minutes away from Oshkosh and after our faire is over next weekend, I will definitely be traveling there to look at the exhibit.

That looks like a great exhibit Craig. I forwarded this info to my nephew going to college the Univ. of Wisconsin (the same one that came with me when I visited your shop). Wish I could make it!

Touch real swords and armor? Man, I wish I could go to this! I wonder how much stuff they'll let the general public handle?

Hello Guys

Thank you for the interest.

Bill the amount of items that people can touch will not be large. It is difficult to do that type of thing in the context of an open exhibit. There are 130 items approximately in the display and almost half are originals and the rest reproductions. The original items consist of parts of the Oakeshott Collection and originals from several individuals private collections. The public I believe will be able to touch a piece of original mail and some plate armor. The edge weapons prove more difficult to do this with as you can imagine.

It realy turned out well. We hope to be able to bring this kind of thing to smaller Muesums aound the country and reach as many people as possible with good info. The museum said they have had a great turn out and the kids especially have been loving it.

Very nice exibit: I really like seeing that English Bill of yours in the display, there is something about it being well lighted and surrounded by original weapons that makes you want to buy one. Well, I still have to pay for the Pole Axe I ordered!

But its nice to know that I can get one eventually. ( When you where a kid visitting a museum exibit of originals, if you are like me, you always dreamed you could take something home.)(Years ago buying a quality copy wasn't an easy or affordable option !)

The first picture is great, an Almayne Rivet! Not often you see those in any venue, let alone a display in the US. I'm sure that the vast majority of those went into Tinker's wares, repairing pots and pans over the centuries. Nice that they actually have one, albeit without gorget, to put in the exhibit.
