German Tapulbrust Translation?

Greetings all,

I have a reproduction harness with a breastplate of almost identical design to the one in the image above. It is of course a classic 16th century tapulbrust but I seem unable to find a translation of the word "tapul". I have found the word "kasten" from "kastenbrust" translating to "box-breast" but no words in any German dictionary or translation site offering the word "tapul". If anyone could shed some light on this elusive word, it would be monumentally appreciated!

Thanks!

Quote:

Ab ca. 1520 wird – beginnend in Italien – die Brust immer weiter vorgeschoben

- bis sich so um 1530 eine scharfe Spitze, der sog. Tapul (von ital. “tappo” / dt. “Zapfen”) entwickelt hat.

- Ab 1546 rückt der obere Rand wieder näher an den Hals hinauf.

- Eckige Armausschnitte

tapul is claimed to be Germanized from Italian "tappo" (=German "Zapfen"=cone)
Thank you Kurt !
