Christmas saw the finalization of a project suggested by my wife and realized by my very talented brother in law. We were able to come up with a great sword cabinet that would look good in just about any room of the house. Here is the result!

That is a great looking set up you have there. Since I have gathered all my stuff together from all the places I stored it as I lived abroad I am in a similar situation. Especially now that I have kids I have to figure a good way to keep something locked as well. Looks like a very useful wardrobe. Might have to start planning for such a project myself. Of course my biggest problem right now are my 6 spears......

Thanks Randall. We are actually looking for an appropriate latch and hasp to add to the door so it can be locked. I picked up one of those MRL medieval padlocks and now we need to find some hardware that will match the theme.
Sean: actually no that isn't a cricket bat  It's my maquahuitl waster. If you don't know, a maquahuitl is a Mesoamerican weapon that was shaped much like you see but the edged were inlaid with rectangles or triangles of sharp obsidian. I have a healthy interest in Pre-Columbian Mesoamerican warfare.

Ah ok... yeah, I've seen the weapon your describing before... tho its outside my area of interest.

Impressive! A very handsome cabinet. Looks great, but seems like there is room for more swords...better fill it up!

Yes, more swords is the key! That and I really need to up the quality. I do have a wonderful EB Erickson/ATrim baskethilt, but it takes a dramatic drop in quality after that.

Allen,
Congratulations to you and your brother in law, you have a very nice cabinet and he did some very nice cabinetry. I know from experience that making a large cabinet when working alone is very difficult. Two hands for big cabinets are never enough.
The mahaiquital (sp?) waster looks like something for initiations at a frat house and I wouldn't let anyone with it within ten feet of me! LOL! It also looks like a deadly enough weapon that it doesn't even need obsidian teeth if used the other way!

Yeah my brother in law does alot of cabinet and dresser/shelf type of work so I think he enjoyed the chance to do something a bit different and dramatic.

Great idea and well executed. I understand about having to worry about others, especially kids, being around your stuff, so this seems like a great and classy solution. But it's sad that your armor is so hidden away down there. Such a beautiful kit should be displayed proudly!

Very nicely done! I love seeing people's ideas put into practice here, as I need to start accumulating ideas for how to better store and display my collection as well. Leaning things against a bookcase and a couple of large wall racks is getting old.

One thing we have discovered is that some of the basket hilts and rapiers, when placed on the side racks snag on the armor door as it is being raised. Not a huge issue but one we didn't anticipate.

Hey,that's pretty nifty.Love the craftsmanship.
Hmmm....come to think of it ,I could use one of those myself.I'm running out of space behind my bedroom door...and in the closet....and on the shelves..and ,well you get the picture .Being short on space I'll probably go with a wall rack or two.I like to keep my collection out to admire.
