I'm just curious what is the earliest date that "Houndskull" side-mounted, visored bascinets can be traced to.

Well I think it is clearly illustrated in the Grandes Chroniques de France, which they usually date in the last bit of the 14th C. I believe.
There may well be posts of this in other threads. Try a search.

Good evening Nick,
There is an excellent spotlight article in the Features section titled 14th Century Bascinets. This is a great starting point for a journey through the coolest (in my opinion) century out there. As mentioned in the article, 1330 is a safe date for a bascinet with a basic visor. The side-pivot houndskull bascinet would be more mid-to-late century. I am comfortable dating my kit to 1360, although I would really like to see earlier documentable evidence of side-pivot houndskull visored bascinets. Please let us know if you come across any interesting information.
Cheers
