Historical Glove Pattern
Hello,
I have decided to order a pair of very high end (very expensive) custom gauntlets. It seems a bit of an abomination to throw modern, cheap, deerskin gloves in them. I have found these which look quite nice... but I can't see spending £100-200 on something I could make myself. Does anyone know of somewhere I could purchase (or download) a historical glove pattern? I am a fairly experienced leather worker and tailor... but I have never done a pair of gloves (many mittens). If worst comes to worst I will make a pair using a modern pattern (which I could modify a bit), or go with Mr. Robinson's gloves.
Thanks,
Hadrian
I don't have a pattern for you, but a material suggestion. While I don't have personal experience, I have heard from friends and read on various forums that you want to use elk for high end gauntlets. Basically: cow, deer, elk is your good, better, best of gauntlet material. I can personally say that deer is much better than cow.
