Where and where is this sword from?
A friend has this sword and is looking for more details about it. If anyone has any input about this sword I would appreciate it.

Could you please post a photo?
Hollywood type XXXVIII
This is the sword used by the Invisible Man in that memorable movie which someone from wardrobe misplaced. I am glad it was found finally. Who found it and where was it mislaid?

Harry? :p :p :p   ;) ;)

A full view of the hilt would be helpful, but based on what I can see it looks like your friend has a British Pattern 1788 Light Cavalry sword. The condition makes it hard to tell if it is a trooper's sword or an officer's sword.

okai, fine. i`m the first to answer, which makes it perfect for me, to spread my half-knowledge around. :D

telling from the hilt, for me it could be an eastern european hussar-saber, from early 17th century upwards.
on the other hand, the blade seems to be a bit too narrow for this, so its possibly later, 1750-x, and western european, when these countries startet to like the stirrup-hilted hussar-style sabers.

so my hypothesis is western european, ~ 1750-1800

Edit: Congratulations, Mr. Hopkins, this was your 1000th post !!
We definitely need to see more of the hilt (and blade), but initial impressions are Austrian, mid to late 1700's. The large "cross" at the guard is the give-away that dates it to this time/location.
