Had this item for a number of years, but never really had a good opinion concerning the authenticity. Would appreciate any help or leads.

(1) Weight = 7lbs. (2) OA Length = 72 1/4 " (3) Blade = 55 1/2 " (ricasso 9 1/2") (4) Handle (wood) = 13" (5) Pommel (w/button) = 3" (6) Quillon = 3/4" (7) Quillons = 14" X 1/4" (8) Side ring (one) 4 3/4" X 3" (9) Lugs = 8 1/4" X 5/16"
(10) Blade (flattened diamond), at ricasso = 1 5/8" X 5/16", at 1 1/4" from tip =1 3/8" X 1/8", at widest =2 1/8"

There is a nice even distal taper from the lugs to the point. The balance is simply superb; can be twirled like a baton in spite of the weight.

Marking on ricasso is a variation of Cross and Orb, discernable only with point up. All fittings were silvered, 60-70 % remaining, Handle studded with silver capped nails 25 on lower porion and 14 on top (w/31 remaining}. Remanents of red material remaining under rings at ends of handle; appears to be velvet(?)

My opinion is that it was a working weapon, North Italian or Swiss, converted to a bearing sword. The handle does not appear to be quite as old as the metal parts and the marking is not that deeply struck, might be engraved(?)...

Can you also post at least one larger-sized version? Those photos are very small.

My first look made me think it appeared very familiar to me. I'm not sure why.

That looks immediately recognizable to me but I can't place it! it's driving me nuts.

I've been out of the loop for many years, and it is quite some time since I last visited a museum storeroom, but something about that sword gives me the impression that it might be of a later date. The point looks rather crude, and the grip looks more decorative than practical. It could be a composite, but don't take my word for it.
