I spent a week in London in '08 (posted pics here).

V&A was good, more my wife's thing (she's into period clothing). Tower of London was impressive.

Bath, for the Roman stuff, was a day trip with Stonehenge, and worth it.

We did a 90-minutes-before-closing loot-and-pillage screaming run through of the British Museum, concentrating on the Roman and Viking/Saxon stuff......wish I'd had most of a day.

We missed the Wallace collection unfortunately, planning we completely forgot about it. We did get away to Portsmouth and saw Fort Nelson (artillery museum) as well as the Victory and Dover castle.

We hit up Leeds by train on the way to York. Leeds was excellent but the lighting and glass are not cooperative with photography in most places. York was really neat, I'm an SCA member and my persona is "from" York (Norman English), so having actually walked the walls of the keep there and seen the sights was well worth it and my wife's family is from the area many generations ago. The museum built into the old castle ruins was mostly Victorian, don't bother.

Jorvik's little museum was packed and we didn't get in.

I agree, Les Invalides in Paris blows everything else away.
Adam,

Thanks for the posts, sounds like a great trip. Needless to say, nothing can compare to seeing these items first hand.

Very happy to hear that restrictions have been relaxed. visited the Wallace Collection many years ago and enjoyed seeing the entire place top to bottom. However, guess it was just me, felt like I was an unwelcome guest in someone's home.

Regards,
Dan
