I am looking for a source for flintlock drill manuals. I have a 1786 French Hussar's musketoon and am seeking the appropriate drill manual. There is a french manual from 1791 that would be appropriate or one created for the U.S. Army in about 1810 that is essentially a direct translation of the earlier French work. This is probably the better one for me since I am not conversant in French. Any suggestions on a source for such will be much appreciated.Rex Wright

In 1810, the US Army was essentially still using Von Stuben's drill manual from the Revolutionary period (with some minor variations) which was a simplified version of the drill used by the armies of Frederick the Great. Von Steben's manual is available from a number of commercial sources."Those who live by the sword...will usually die with a huge, unpaid credit card balance!"
Track of the Wolf has it for $7.95 plus shipping. I have a copy and it is very interesting and, as Glen says, it was the manual for US soldiers until 1812. www.trackofthewolf.com.Lin Robinson
