Hello all, I thought I'd share pictures of some recent projects....I've had the chance to work on some new scabbards and suspensions over the last few months, as well as this sidesword. The incised leatherwork on the suspension belts is very nice! How did the back side (stiched area) of the scabbards turn out?

Well, i think they both turned out pretty well. Here are some pictures of the stitching on the backs. One of them shows the transition from one type of stitch to another.....i cut the leather a tiny bit too wide from that point down, so the stitching on the right sucked up the excess and kept it good and tight. Its well below the part of the scabbard that rests against the hip/leg, so i figured what the heck.

I was working this past week at a college in Connecticut (i'm a freelance lighting designer, so i travel a lot), and the technical director there had just acquired a huge and beautiful old South Bend lathe for about $300, in perfect working condition. What a steal! Anyhow, they were kind enough to let me spend a few hours of downtime on it so i turned some pommels i've had in mind. One is for the rapier guard its shown with, which carefully matched my drawings. The others i just freehanded with the remaining stock i had. Probably the more ovoid one will get faceted. Its proportions are a little off....
I haven't done any pommels on a lathe in ages....its sort of like drawing curves with an etch-a-sketch.
