From a link in the great helms feature on this site, I came upon a site called Outfit4Events (not exactly a gripping name, I know) which is based in Europe and offers a ridiculously wide variety of reproduction armour, more than I have seen at any other site that's not of an individual custom armourer. The full and half armours they offer are, at least visually, the best looking that I have seen of any of these sites that sell large amounts of non-custom gear. They have stuff I have not seen for sale anywhere else, like 17th-century cuirassier's harnesses (example) and 16th-century armets and close helms which seem to replicate the form of that kind of helmet better than any other mass-produced items I've seen.Here, for instance, is their "Renaissance Armet." Other sites offer rather dreadful-looking "armets" like this one, whereas the one from Outfit4Events actually looks like a reasonable reproduction of a real 16th-century Augsburg or Greenwich-style helmet.

They even have some copies of astonishingly obscure armours, like the Saxon Scharfrennen harness of the late 16th century, several of which are on display at museums around the world. It looks like they actually worked pretty exhaustively to replicate the original form, complete with the grandguard and neck bracket. Their "Renaissance Armour, likewise, looks remarkably good, especially considering the price. It actually looks like a real, form-fitted, historically accurate suit of 16th-century tournament armour, and not some kind of sloppy composite of various styles and eras patched together in oversized, ill-fitting pieces of plate like I have seen at some other low-budget armour websites.

Has anyone ever bought anything from this outfit? Their descriptions are woefully short; they offer almost no written information about these armours. What is the story on Outfit4Events?

Outfit4Events is basically a reseller of various Eastern European makers, mostly Czech, I think.

A while ago, I figured out who made their swords. I also did some research into their armour, but that was more difficult. I'm not an armour specialist anyway... The key is in the first three letters of the name of the pictures.

I do have two helmets (a "Corinthian barbute" and a "Norman") from the smith they call "pef", and I'm quite happy with them. Good, forged helmets, made from two scales, welded in the middle. Unlined but with leather suspension.

I don't know who "mib" is, unfortunately. If you do figure it out, let me know.
