Newspaper and PVC test cut
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNMdfyvDGhU
The first roll was on 2" thick newspaper roll with PVC shaft. Windlass 15th century longsword.

The second roll was on 2.5" thick newspaper roll with PVC shaft, Deva Slayer. The shaft was unable to support the momentum of impact and bent. The cutting stand's pipe was also broken under Deva Slayer's attacks.

Tried again with Deva Slayer after learning the specific way to cut with Chinese style. Very successful.
Interesting technique in the second video. Illustrates how different blade types can require different handling to cut at their full potential.

Yes, I was totally stunned when my master taught me the skill and he cut a similar newspapers roll in half effortlessly with his dao. Even up to the time I performed the cuts in the videos, I wasn't confident that I could cut them into halves. So it came as a surprise how much change it brought by handling it differently!

Another student test cut with Martial Art Korean sword on 3 different diameter unfixed newspapers rolls.
It must be fun to have those cutting sessions on the rooftop. It must be also fun for the neighbors. By the way, is the weather always overcast, from the videos it looks like that.

The neighbors were always having fun watching us practice, be it cutting, sparring or just solo. The weather lately were very rainy and we took the chance when it stopped raining to do our cutting. :)

My tries on horizontal cuts. The 3 cuts were successful but it was very challenging.
