Looks like a baselard to my admittedly novice eye, possibly XIVth century?- http://www.myArmoury.com/albums/displayimage....amp;pos=19
There are quite a few other examples to be found on this site, a search should turn up something.
Interesting that the tang section is hollowed out on one side only.

Yes, a nice baselard!
My first guess would have been 14th C. Perhaps first half or mid 14th C?

Why do you feel it belongs to a later period, Tod?
Not trying to put you in a spot, just interested. My guess is a gut feeling more than anything else.

I base my guess on the double narrow fuller/grove that feels like an early feature to me. Later ones have broader double fullers and even later often lacking fullers completely.
Then again, I could not say this is a clear development and that any of these features exist in a chronological order.

Nice dagger, anyhow.

Hello to all,

a very interesting dagger!! Surprised

Of course, basilard. Not easy to find out it's time. At first it seems to me also like a later typer (end of 15th century, early 16th century. Thinking at late types of ballock daggers and rondel daggers...

But I am not really sure.

Ric, can you tell where is it from?

I try to find out more, but I need a little bit time.

kind regards

S.Benn

I am sure it's basillard, second half of 14th century. Looks like italian or french.

Probably. Nice corrosion pattern - looks like it probably rusted in its scabbard, no ?

Probably because it was late, I was too lazy to get my reference books out and I was distracted by being jealous of Ric Ote
