I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this event that is not mentioned on their web site. i have seen a video of the knights competeing and it looks purely awsome and a ton better than anything I have ever seen in person. I mean their jousting arena sits 10,000 people, Thats pretty huge.
I would love to go, but I think I would require a guide, I dont speak german and would not want to be like some tourist standing there not understanding a dang thing anyone said, lol. Just looks like a step up from regualr ren fest events.
http://www.knighttournament.com/ very little pictures of the event, but in english
http://www.schloss-kaltenberg.de/ has pictures, some video, but in german

Hi Christopher, what they do is not a competitive joust. It is a show. Not even remotely based on anything historical. They are wearing what looks like spay painted plastic motorbike armour.
It is skilful and I am sure they put on a great show.
Real jousters wear real armour. Like mine below.
If you want to see real jousters in real armour really jousting,,,,, the link below is for you, this is in California.

Hi Christopher, I've been to this a few times and it's pretty fun, but every year it seems to be more crowded. The jousting shows I saw were all in German (of course) but still fun to watch. I believe the performers are all professional stuntmen and it looks like they use lances that splinter easily, but dramatically. There are some groups that are walking around the grounds that have some pretty impressive armor. The last time I went a few years ago there was a band called Corvus Corax that played shows and did the music during the tournament every year. They play enormous homemade bagpipes and dress in strange costumes, and they put on a pretty good show. And the beer's good! If you're thinking of coming over here to catch the show, you can do it in a weekend and see some of the many other sights this country has to offer. There's alot to see and do in that area. Hope this helps.

I just have to ask one thing...
I just looked at the Historic Enterprises website more in depth then I have before. If I had the capability to spend a base price of $22,900.00 up towards $37,500.00 on a complete suit of armour (Not including $800.00 for wedge riveted mail) I would possibly, then think comments of the afore mentioned.

However, was this comment necessary?

Actually a lot of "jousters" wear exactly what Rod described.

wow thats a whole other world i didnt know about... How could people wear basically.... fake armour? would this type be more so at places like midevil times? cause that stuff in the movie "The cable guy" really did look like cheap stuff. That is just real sad how people could do that. I dont joust or anything, though I do care about my purchases being armour made of a good grade of metal.

It wasn't a slam,,,,, it is what they are wearing.
They are a stunt show. Historical accuracy isn't an issue, they are doing it purely as entertainment and to be able to do that they are wearing plastic armour. Nothing wrong with that. But it is not a real competitive joust.
Plastic armour is worn at Medieval Times. Again, a show.
We do use real armour in our shows though, as do many others worldwide.
Cheers

Ok, maybe this needs a new topic for me (Please excuse me for my inexperiance) Yet I believe the ones viewing this thread have the approapriate answer.
A) There are real competitive jousts which means real armour.
B) There are shows with actors that joust in fake plastic armour.
C) There are jousts with real armour that are shows (Not competitive)
and this part has had my mind confused for a while..
D) The are groups such as the WMA that practice with real swords though without armour. This being because the sword techinques are .... anti-armour fighting styles... might I have worded that totally wrong.
E) There are groups such as SCA that totally integrate everything, however impose a bunch of restrictions.
So my new question is..... What sort of sword techinques does one use while fighting in armour against someone in armour... and is there any groups that does this other than World Joust?
And also, does World Joust allow anyone to enter the competition or do you have to have special training of some sort? I glanced over the rules page and I only noticed that one must be properly armoured.

certain wma groups also practice in armour. Wma contains whole sections dedicated to dealing with opponents in armour, but the moves are very different to non armoured fighting. There are very little in the way of cuts and slashes, and lots in the way of stabbing to vulnerable points and hammering through heavier plate. The problem is that not only does it require well made, and therefore expensive, armour but its also very brutal and unforgiving. You get a move wrong and your sparring partner is without depth perception.
If you want to research it a bit more then try and get your hands on a copy of "knightly arts of combat" or one of the many other martial arts books that are recommended, but that I haven't read.
Hope this helps.

Hello Zac,
Would you mind posting the impressive photo above of yourself on horseback with the beautiful lady over in the "Jousters and Knights with Real Ladies" thread? As such, it would be the very first one entered.
That particular photograph struck me as stunning enough to warrant a whole new collection of this genre. If you have other similar photos, or know of other jousting personalities with such, by all means please be kind enough get the word out, and let them be seen by our regular members. Even the singular photo posted by Rod would qualify as highly worthy, and impressively captivating the essence of the old days, no matter if sans female.
Regards, Torsten...

If only that were me. Unfortunatly its Arne Coets who jousts for the royal armouries. I was the squire on the other side of the lens. I shall post it however, for all to drool over.
