As regards the authenticity of the piece shown I can't say any more than I have.
Specifically to Bruno, as you have either held or come very close to this shield can you tell us if the edge is dished and how thick it is?

Tod (great stuff eheh), no, i have seen just the better pics on the Czerny website.
Another member of armsandarmourfroum, Mr Paggiarino is a collector and the author of a couple of very good armor books, thinks that such shield is dubious and ha hinted at such an opinion being held by other collectors.
Hints, suspects, coming from informed collectors who have developed at their expenses a critical eye: when figures in the thousands euros range are in question such eye is indispensble.
I would contact the Luzern museum in order to see the pieces or get some better pics of undisputed (or less disputed) originals.

Le ROTELLE" hanno forma circolare, talvolta tendente all'ovale, un diametro

The rotelle have circular shape, sometimes tending towards an oval one, a diameter varying between 500 and 650 millimeters, while their weight ranges from 2200 to 3800 grams (2.2 to 3.8 kilos).

Were thise shields curved out from wood or somehow bent? So how were the wood worked to be oval?
