For the first time, Weta Limited is selling one-of-a-kind custom swords made by myself through its retail branch, Weta Cave.

The official release, with links to the first two swords, is below; but I also wish to add some notes of my own to answer a few questions before they arise.

I have been a contractor at Weta Workshop for over 10 years now, as a specialist sword maker, but also other work that fits with my skills. In that time I have worked on swords for some major films, in particular The Lord of the Rings trilogy, but in each case the contracts to make replicas have gone to other companies, so there has been no chance for me to make high-end relicas of movie swords for the avid collector. While I cannot yet make replicas of any of those famous movie swords, I can use all that I have learned about design and construction, historical swords and their function (I recently did a trip to the UK and USA that included visits to some of the major museums and hands-on experience of historical swords) ,and the application of modern technologies to an ancient craft, to create unique designs.

The first two swords are in the shop now and ready for shipping. But I can design and make fantasy and historical swords to suit the individual requirements of the client - if you are interested, contact me by PM or email Weta Limited directly.

Just to clarify something: while I work long hours in my contract for Weta Workshop, I also am trying to chip away at a long backlog of my private commissions. These are separate things, and because of my long hours at Weta, the time taken to complete private commissions is stretching into years now, and as a result I stopped taking on new work myself a long while ago. I am still working away at my backlog, and the swords available through Weta are an entirely different beast and part of my contract with Weta, and will not change anything about my private commissions.

The main page for the Weta Cave swords can be seen here: http://www.wetanz.com/collectibles/index.php?...p;cPath=15

If you haven't already had a good look at the Weta website, it is well worth the time. And if you ever get to Wellington, the Weta Cave is an amazing place to visit.

Weta Premiere – One-of-a-kind Swords by Peter Lyon
For the first time ever, Weta is able to offer handmade swords by its master swordsmith, Peter Lyon.
These swords are available only through Weta’s website www.wetanz.com and at its retail store The Weta Cave in Wellington, New Zealand.
Peter Lyon joined Weta in the early days of Lord Of The Rings, and has created all the iconic hero weapons from the movies - Anduril, Narsil, Glamdring, Sting - all took shape in Peter's smithy.
Since then, Peter's work has included Japanese blades for The Last Samurai, fantastical creations for The Chronicles Of Narnia and most recently for Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull.
To set this range off, we're starting with two very different swords.
The Late Medieval Longsword

is a sword entirely of Peter's design. It's inspired by medieval European swords and by the mighty Centaur swords from The Chronicles Of Narnia – The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe.
The Machaera

has sprung from a unique blend of influences. Peter wanted to create a sword that was the polar opposite of the Longsword. The result is an incredibly dynamic piece with intricate detail and sweeping curves. It is partly inspired by an ancient Greek sword called the Machaera, the forerunner of the modern Kukhri, but with unusual features not found in historical swords.
There will only ever be one of each of these swords – every time one sells, Peter will create a new one of a new design.

That Machaera is the very definition of a "wicked blade" - it's just amazing. Steven, I'll go out back and shake the money tree; you stay here and hold your breath. Laughing Out Loud

Mind blowing work as usual Peter. Happy
That is so great you are now able to get back to custom one of a kind work for individuals.

Your past work played a role in inspiring me to get into swordsmithing for myself! So I thank you greatly for that. Wink

Keep at the amazing work!
