Hello everyone,
Just thought I'd pass along that we're taking 'pre-orders' on the new line of Tinker Pearce designed swords at our retail site; www.edgefair.com. These aren't really pre-orders since you don't have to pay anything, just a spot in line for the first batch. The longsword should be arriving by June, the single hand Early Medieval is the furthest off and the Bastard we should have a prototype for Tinker to review shortly.
Just register and add the sword you're interested in to your 'wishlist', we'll contact everyone when we know for sure when they'll be in.

Hello Blake,
Any idea when the early Medieval sword will become available? Am I correct in saying that this sword is a type XII in the Oakshott typology? I presume that when your specifications for your swords say demountable that it means that the hilt portion of the sword can be disassembled and removed from the blade is that correct? Is there a set screw in the pommel
(at a right angle to the tang) or is there a threaded nut that fastens the pommel to a threaded tang?

Hello Ken,
We do not have firm dates on the Early Medieval sword, unfortunately. It is a Type XII. The hilt can be completely removed from both the sharp and blunt by loosening the recessed allen nut in the pommel. The threads are cut from a reduced section of the tang. It is possible that we will be offering peened versions in the future, however this is not for certain. There are so many advantages to a dismountable arrangement; inspection, customization, blade replacement, etc. etc.

It is so much easier to tighten up a loose hilt with the recessed allen pommel nut than trying to do it with a peened version.
I'm looking forward to the blunt bastard. I bet it is a sweet handling sword.

Thanks for the information. Please do not misunderstand, I think that there are several advantages to having a demountable hilt. I was just wondering how it worked mechanically.
I think there was another thread about these swords a while ago and I said that I liked the demountable hilts because you could "tinker" with the sword. Sorry, I had to do that. It would be fun to customize a sword and a lot easier to do with a demountable hilt.
