Hello altogether,

I was just wondering after my latest acquisition about the possibilities to fix a cisor in its open or closed position. One way would be to make the rivets sit really tight, but under use this would always result in a loosening with the effect of a not properly fixed visor.

Then I saw helmets with an asymetric pivot points setup, that way the visor was not perfectly aligned, but it would give a spring like effect that would leave the visor where it should be.

Spring pins. A pin catch on a piece of steel maybe 2" long that actuats through shared holes in the visor and the body of the helmet. To release the visor the pin is depressed and the visor thus allowed to move freely until it is again lines up with the pin.

I haven´t seen this feature on period bascinets or sallets yet, was it used in period.

It was not used that i'm aware of on basinettes, it was used to keep the visor down on sallets, and I have seen examples of armets and close helms that used it to keep the visor up. I have not seen examples of a helmet that used both, but with the variety of original material out there I would not comfortably say that some do not exist.
