I'm quite interested in this one, anyone could tell me, as I am a newbie, if this sword is more or less historical correct. Furthermore any comments regarding the quality of Cervenka's work would be appreciated.

Thanks! Sounds good. I wonder why they call it in the review a fantasy sword? Anyone any idea? Isn't it just a late 14th century bastard one?

I've yet to see that combination of guard, cross, and pommel on any historical sword. If it fits in any period, it would be the 15th (maybe 16th) century rather than the 14th. While it has historical elements, I think calling it a fantasy sword is not inappropriate.

Is this one historical accurate? I really like this one as well, especially due to the long ricasso and the simple but comfortable looking pommel.

I own this longsword by V. Cervenka. It's a very good sword, nicely forged and rock solid, better than any production longsword made by Windlass to this date. And yes, it's more a fantasy sword than anything else.

I wrote the review so I can answer that one. Chad essentially nailed it. To verify that this design did not come from any extant original I contacted the original owner (I did the scabbard work for the second owner) who was also the designer of the sword and asked him if he had any historical inspiration. As I suspected the inspiration was in fact the sword from the Lord of the Rings Movies. Is this sword completely historically implausible? Perhaps not, but to date nothing like it to my knowledge has been uncovered.
