A slightly more modern report on historical re-enactment!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/6924090.stm

Nice to see a more modern piece about historical re-enactment reach the front page of the BBC webite. It even refers implicitly to the use of fighting systems during the middle ages, which is more than many articles on the subject do! Not to mention saying that armour was meant to be almost a 'second skin'. Makes a change from the usual 'tin can weighing tons'...

The finishing quote is one that will stick in the memory I think!

"Films and television may come and go, but there will always be some geezers in armour running around a wet field in England," Alan says."

That is so totally Alan! Don't be fooled by the accent, he is actually a kiwi.
His comments on bows was complete rubbish, though:

Quote:
Next we move on to archery, where I'm given a bow with a 45-pound draw - the measurement of how much power the bow has. That is just a fraction of the 100- to 120-pound draw of the English longbow. "They don't make them like that any more today, because people can't use them."

Well, I shoot a 130lb bow, and I have a friend who makes a living making and selling heavy warbows, so there must be a few of us out there.

Apologies if this article has been posted already (I didn't see it when I looked),
