Abandon all hope that it's even remotely related to the original story, and either don't go see it, or rename it in your mind as Cyberwulf and see if it stand up on it's own as total phantasy or a good film.
I will probably go see it just for the CGI and see if I'm entertained. ;)

The CGI didn't look all that good to me. The arrow storm definately reminded me of 300. At least they weren't flaming arrows streaking across the night sky.

Kinda like the strange accent she put on for Oliver Stone's Alexander.....but then again that film was full of strange accents!! :eek:

I've already seen a Hollywood style "muscle-cuirass" and a hero with bare legs (in Northern Europe?!), what hope do I have that Hollywood will give our heroes Migration period or Vendel style helmets? The producers probably think that Sutton Hoo is the name of a Rock Group! If they had bothered to read the original poem they would have seen that Beowulf and his warriors wore mail shirts, not muscle cuirasses! :D

:) At least Beowulf have a mail shirt inside of that muscle cuirasses with a nice wolf on it's back. ;)
give it some time so can we look at photos and that stuff later and see whats comes up,
i would guess that this "trailer" was just a teaser and the first parts who was ready to show up public.
Is it just me, or is anyone else tired of movies about Beowulf? There is plenty more historical mythlogy they can pick from.

I'm tired of bad movies about Beowulf....A good one would be refreshing...."The 13th Warrior" was entertaining...."Beowulf and Grendel" looked promising but didn't have a good budget etc... This one looks like "Shrek meets Beowulf". Oh well, who'd expect a decent historical movie?
Meh, I dunno what to say really. I'm extremely turned off by Anthony and Angelina being in this, they just plain don't fit, could they get any more anti-Norse? Seriously, I think English when I see Anthony, weird adopts 50 zillion kids lady when I see Angelina, and some sort of Eastern European fellow when I see John. I hope this type of movie dies soon, I for one don't think they work, it would have been better if it wasn't CGI. And even then the cast is off imo, why, oh why, can't anyone leave the historical feel of these movies intact?

Did you see the one with Christopher Lambert? Talk about a bad Beowulf movie, I rented it for laughs, but it was so bad that it actually wasn't funny. I kind of enjoyed Beowulf and Grendel as my standards for movies have gone way down in recent times, because so bad movies are being made today, and anything remotely entertaining seems good amongst the sea of turds.

I own "Beowulf and Grendel" I thought it was pretty good.

I own the Beowulf and Grendel movie also. I bought it mostly because I liked the helmets that Valentine Armoury made for the film. I have not seen the Christopher Lambert Grendel movie but if i recall it was a futuristic Grendel interpretation. I was tempted to see it due to a feeling of loyalty to Mr Lambert for the original Highlander but the preview looked baddddd.
As far as this one goes I just don't want every movie to be CG heavy. It's OK to use it with discretion but sometimes it just looks more real and gritty to do it the old fashioned way...like Underworld etc...(not that they didn't use CG but a lot of it was animatronics). Personally, if it isn't going to be historical, at least let it be fantastic. I'll just pop Excalibur in the dvd player and not worry about historical accuracy but at least be entertained.

CGI can be seamless and truly " trompe l' oeil " ( French for fool the eye i.e. can't be noticed as an effect ).
This is used most in movies where real object and CGI object are in the same shot and only works if one can't tell which is which. Sometimes one will know that it can't be real because of context.
The other way to use CGI doesn't hide that It's CGI but is done in some sort of style: Shreck or 300 Spartans as examples.
Both kinds can be well or badly done for aesthetic or technical reasons: The realistic stuff fails if it doesn't completely fool the eye due to errors of shape/scale, movement or lighting not matching the surrounding real elements.
Movie CGI that seemed very real like " Titanic " doesn't seem as convincing today as it did when the movie came out.
Remember those old 1960's blue screen shots of people driving cars that seemed O.K. but are totally unconvincing today !
Old James Bond from 1963 come to mind. :eek: :lol:
I agree movies should go back to "real" things more often nowadays. Remember all the old gems? Labyrinth, Aliens, Willow, etc, etc, THAT was how it should be, is it because CGI is so cheap that it's used all the time now?

I'm not saying CGI can't add to a film if used with discretion. Certain films would be difficult without it: Narnia, Lord of the Rings etc... I guess what I'm tired of is bad CGI. I'd rather have a good make-up artist and special effects team for creatures. To me it ruins the movie when the monster is revealed and you can almost see the pixels....oooh scary ;)
I grew up with Clash of the Titans! Could you imagine a good remake? About as likely as a good Beowulf movie I suppose.

Me, too. I loved the photography in that one, with all the beautiful landscapes.
Lets hope the '1066 The Movie' project can get of the ground and be given the green light, if they stick to Chris Collingwood's illustrations they can't go too wrong.....No Hollywoodisation, no Braveheart or King Arthur please.

IIRC, this movie is almost 100% CGI...think Final Fantasy--The Spirit Within.
