not just like that persay but there is a painting dating from the latter half of the 14th century that has a grille of similar design. I believe that it is an altarpiece painting if I recall.

I'm trying to remember the name of it so I can find an image of it online for you. I don't have my books with me either until next week. but if anyone here has TOMAR (techniques of medieval armour reproduction by: Brian R. Price) it has it in there.

Agreed - I think the original image may have had a central hinge, rather than side hinges. It is Bohemian, and associated with Wenceslas - either a Bible (I think) or maybe an altarpiece. However, it is far more popular in modern times than it seems to have been in medieval times.

The painting you are wanting is 'The Resurrection' by The Master of the Trebon Altarpiece, so named after the three panels he painted for an altarpiece originally housed in the monastery at Trebon (Wittingau) in the Czech Republic and now in the National Gallery, Prague. The panels are thought to have been painted sometime between 1380 - 1390 AD.

The hinge on the bascinet is clearly a center hinge. I am going to try and post an image of the painting for you. Hope it works.

Thanks.There can be one problem with this painting-the helmet belongs to the "very bad roman soldier"-it can be intentionaly derisive(like soldiers on paintings of the way of the Cross with strange equipement and evil faces)

Yes, I know the kind of medieval religious paintings you are referring to, they have very sinister looking 'roman' guards in contemporary medieval armour and garb, but somehow it still works very well as a painting.

Personally, I like the boss on his shield, now you could do some damage with that! ;)

The problem is that in the biggest polish reenactment forum it is a heresy to claim that those visors existed... :\ That is why I'm looking for some info...even if first half of 15century doesn't bother me that much usually.
