No, mine sticks out too – I should have posted a pic from the side as well if I though about it (I had my phone by the PC so just did a fast snap with no fancy editing etc – just reduced in size to upload) as I was just trying to get the rivets and handle thickness in shot.

The GDFB buckler is perfectly OK – tough as old boots (mine is still tight rivet wise) if a tad heavy. Would I buy another one, maybe I would go elsewhere, but then again mine was a starter one for I.33 and as I progress, and know my own requirements, I would be happy to stump up the extra for something else. Would I recommend one to start I.33 with – yes, if you are happy with the weight and handle size. Would I recommend one for historical accuracy – no it is most certainly a ‘practical’ tool in this respect.

By the way, I use thin bike handlebar ribbon on my grip (simply because I usually have some about) and this is a big help as the steel grip alone is a bit slippery.

What are the size in width and depth of these bosses? I find that many armourers make huge bosses when in fact, they only need to cover your knuckles, so one inch deep should be more than enough in my opinion.
A bit hard to measure, but the boss is 1.25” deep from the shield body – giving about 2.75” ‘clearance’ from the grip. You could loose about half an inch or so depth without any problem – but I must admit I think the more ‘rounded’ boss is more aesthetically pleasing.
