Here is an interesting targe that belongs to a friend of mine. Some may have seen it for sale at the Show of Shows in Louisville this last February. I took some photos and thought perhaps the members would enjoy seeing them.
Lets hear what you think of it. This time I hope the photos get through!

Larry, they're working just fine. Your first post has two photos in it. If you need more help go to our info pages: http://www.myArmoury.com/talk/faq.php
Nice targe.
Is it me, or is it very plain, almost munitions grade, could it be one of the contracted ones for the rebellions?
Your friend needs congratulating on owning such a fine piece.

Larry, you are much more the expert than myself on this subject, but from some of the illustrations in Drummond and the Swords and Sorrows exhibition, it seems to me - at least - that most targaids were rather plain. The "fancy few" like dirks and swords survived due to association or because they were special. If I were going to use one as protection, I would personally want the optimum combination of weight and protection (material)...decoration would be nice, but definitely a distant third. I wouldn't opine of whether "munition grade" is the right answer but certainly utilitarian! Great pictures, by the way. Very much appreciated! George
