Dear Friends,
Circa 1750 Hirschfangers were produced that had game birds as shell guards. These swords had a variety of hilt and blade forms but there is enough similarity within the styles to credit them as a sub genre of their own. My reference book, European Hunting Hangers (German, English and French) by Martin Stiegler. Published by the author. Pages 34 &35, copied below, show the dear foot style, I had more of these at one time but sold a few.
