English cav officer's basket
Howdy everyone,
I came across this one on eBay: item #2210430725. Several of this basic style have turned up over the last few years, but this is by far the nicest one, with all the engraved hilt elements. Also, the detachable forward guard's treatment is absolutely unique (but I'm not sure I like it!). Nice blade, too- probably from the late 1600s.

Lovely sword, Eljay. I like that little hanger, too.

I hear that Michael Long just passed away.
It's difficult for me to make out the unique way in which the forward guards are attached. Can you describe it?
Hi Nathan,
One easy-to-see screw attaching to the knucklebow; one screw at the base of each arch where they contact the side knucklebows. In the view of the left side of the hilt, you can barely see the screwhead. Because of the angle of the photo, you can't see much of anything of the one on the right.

Hi Eljay

Very nice one !

I luv how the maker duplicated the side panels design into the forward guards ...... far nicer than just two loops, 'eh !
