I just found this old link which I thought was no longer available. It may have been posted here somewhere before, but I thought I should post it because of recent experience. Here in my city one of our guys sells archery gear and looks after most of the Archers at events I was chatting to him last week and I mentioned this site in Belgium which shows all sorts of historical fancy contest shooting. Events called...."Tir LeRoy", shooting at the crennels, moving target, etc, etc.......He was very interrested to say the least, but when I went to the site, it had disapeared into cyberspace. Luckily I had saved most of the stuff and burned it to a disc. Just goes to show you.....never take valuable information for granted. Just because a site has been there for years does'ent mean a thing.....it can be gone on a cyber-second !
Anyway......this is about "enarmes" ....shield straps and concentrates on the Kite shield from the Bayeaux Tapestry.
Like the Archery site.....I thought it has dissapeared, but here it is.....

Seems that the atatchment of the enarmes was more or less up to personal whim.
Norwegian laws from the 1270's state that the shield should have three enarmes, but not the pattern.
